1970s Rosters

Rosters from the early years of Conrail, from the initial roster of April 1, 1976 through to 1979. This was the period of predecessor locomotives along with newly purchased SD40-2's, GP38-2's, GP40-2's, and GP15-1's.

1980s Rosters

The 1980's saw many changes to Conrail's roster. Most older locomotive classes were sold or scrapped. The decade began with the SD50's and SD60's arriving. The Dash-7 and Dash-8 models from GE also arrived in large numbers. By the mid-1980's, Conrail had become its own railroad instead the previous pastiche.

1990s Rosters

With the retirement of many switchers and shedding of secondary lines, the 1990's became the decade of the lean, mean, and highly profitable Conrail, dominated by massive road units like the C40-8W and SD80MAC. In 1999, we sadly said goodbye to the railroad we had known since 1976.
