Contrary to popular belief, Conrail did not paint these gondolas blue. Instead, Conrail purchased these cars from the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway (CBNS) and restenciled them 'CR.' The former CB&CNS markings are quite evident under the paint-out area. Sometimes the cars had a sticker on the side that read "Provided by a Railtex Feeder Railroad," while other cars had this sticker removed. No class markings on any car, as per practice on new CR equipment purchased in 1998.
