This car had been sitting in the NYS&W Utica Shops yard with the rest of the NYS&W junk cars, ballast cars, and passenger cars. The yellow door means the car was assigned to 'clean lading service,' which meant it could be used in service where the car had to be clean inside. This often involved but was not restricted to paper service. Other classes that qualified for clean lading were the X74, X75, and BA50A. The BA50A were all former Raritan River boxcars.
