This class of Conrail ETTX tri-level autoracks measured 89'4" long and was one of the last Conrail autoracks. They had three racks to hold fifteen mid-size or eighteen compact cars from the late-1990's. In order to avoid clearance problems, the flatcar had a special low-level design identified by the cut-outs in the side-sill, allowing the trucks to swing out. Unlike other autoracks of the time with their usual 33" wheels, these cars were equipped with smaller 28" wheels, lowering the car even more than usual. As a result, these cars had a unique low-slung look to them.

There was good diversity among the Conrail racks when it came to the panel logos. On this rack, for instance, the logos are painted directly onto the perforated panels. Notice how the shop crews had a hard time painting the logos. Also notice the variations among the styles of the 'Quality' logo.

The paint crews used individual numbers and letters on the car's reporting marks. Of course, the nothing lines up properly.

This car is similar to ETTX 701252 above. It has the wide-body rack and low-riding flatcar, but there are some differences. Notice the area on the flatcar above the trucks. There is some interesting metal work there where the cutouts should be. This was a loaded rack heading into Tampa on CSX.

TTX remanufactured this car from an older TTGX rack. In late-1994/early-1995, the TTX Company (formerly TrailerTrain) began placing "filler panels" in the spaces along the upper and lower edges of the standard panels, as seen on this rack. At the same time, TTX introduced a more reinforced panel design with fewer holes, as on this car. The solid yellow paint scheme of the entire car made it unique on Conrail.

This is what happens when one photographs an 89'4" autorack with a telephoto lens, visually compressing it. Instead of a ribbed roof, this car has a smooth version, making it interesting.

An empty autorack was heading north out of Florida back to the plants in the northeast. Note that on this car the Conrail logos are applied to solid panels, while the flat car has the TTX logo.
