A Santa Fe C30-7 Conrail purchased from GE/ATSF for the Conrail lease fleet waits for service in Altoona Shop's yard, sans prime mover. This was the time when there were probably twenty or so like it sitting there, as well as the NJT U34h's that had just ended their career and were well hidden out of camera range. This unit would be rebuilt then painted in the simplified blue scheme as CRL 502.

A former-ATSF unit originally to be placed into Conrail's lease arm, but 505 was one of several units transferred into regular Conrail service. Shawn notes that when this photo was taken 505 and 538 had just been out-shopped from the NYS&W Utica Shops under contract for GE and sounded and ran like new. "CRL" has been repainted with "CR" on the cab.

Conrail C30-7 6601 at North Adams Junction, Pittsfield, MA. One of a four-unit lash-up, which had been busy this day moving empty and loaded ballast trains back and forth between Pittsfield and West Springfield. When transferred to Conrail's lease fleet in 1992 and 1993, 6601 would be leased to Southern Pacific.

CR 6601 is on UNL-40 (loaded unit coal train bound for the Milliken, NY power plant, which closed in August 2019) sitting on Ithaca Secondary after running around its train. The red L on the cab designates this as one of the locomotives Conrail leased to the Southern Pacific during the early 1990's. SP applied the letter, but Conrail took their time removing them.

CR 6609 has one year of service left before it will be sent to the British Columbia Railway as BCOL 3624, where it will be rebuilt as a C36-8M. It would serve on into the early 2000's before being retired again and sent down to Waycross, GA as PRSX 3624. From GA it would be sent Central Peru in South America, where it was still operating as of this posting.
