I tried to take as many elevated shots of locomotives as possible so we could see roof and walkway details as on 5037, which was middle unit on HBBE (Harrisburg, PA - Bethelehem, PA).

Our first encounter with the fairly new, at the time, GE B36-7's occured on 2/10/1984 in Hinsdale, MA Eastbound TV-14X, led by the 5045, was stabbed at the Hinsdale crossovers for an opposing train, as one track on the east slope of Washington Hill was out of service. As the railroad was still ABS signal rules and a TBO was controlling the hand-throw switches and handing up orders to trains running against the flow. It didn't matter that the train stopped "in advance" of the block signal seen in the photo.

The opposing train that TV-14X (See 5045 above) was waiting for, BOEL, also had another B36-7, the 5047, in the lead. Although fairly new, the Northeast winter has made a mess of the 5047, just as it does automobiles.

By the time Robert Palmer had caught up with the 5047, 14 years of hard service in MA and the Northeast had caught up to it. The old white numberboards have been replaced with newer white boards.
