Here is proof that the famous pair of SD-9's that worked the hump yard did go out on local train runs. Here 6909 leads APB-2 from across the river in Allentown to Bethlehem. The unit survived in Bethlehem in storage until at least late 1981.

We used to think that the Allentown Hump SD-9's left the area when done, but they got put into storage down by the engine terminal, until that was cleaned out in the early 1980s.

John says about shooting this unit, "It was a transfer job over to the C&O yard at Walbridge. We were railfanning in an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer. You should have seen the looks we got. Me and my best buddy Jack running all over Ohio in a truck."

Penn Central:

A typical PC unit with a group of other locos taken several years prior to Conrail just to give a sense of what they looked like before being repainted CR. Many roamed CR still in PC colors for a long time.
