Here is proof that the famous pair of SD9's that worked the hump yard did go out on local train runs. Here Conrail 6909 leads APB-2 from across the river in Allentown to its destination in Bethlehem. The unit survived in Bethlehem in storage until at least late-1981.

We used to think that the Allentown Hump SD9's left the area when done, but they got put into storage down by the engine terminal, until that was cleaned out in the early 1980's.

John says about shooting Conrail 6916, "It was a transfer job over to the C&O yard at Walbridge. We were railfanning in an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer. You should have seen the looks we got. Me and my best buddy, Jack, running all over Ohio in a truck."

Penn Central 6924 retains its number under Conrail but has had its PC heralds painted over and CR initials applied. Sitting in storage, 6924 would never be repainted blue.
