CR 6655

CR 6655

A bit far from its old stomping ground on Horseshoe Curve, CR 6655 proves that these units could sometimes be found pulling regular freight trains across the system. Again, the trademark Erie Lackawanna horns are mounted over the engineer's cab. In mid-1992 Conrail rebuilt this unit with a 3000hp prime mover

EL 3675

It's shortly after the Conrail start up as EL SD45-2 leads a freshly painted Conrail U23B. EL 3675 was built in July 1972 and in 1976 became CR 6660. In 1998, it suffered an engine failure and was eventually sold to the Reading & Northern, where it became R&N 3600.

Taken in Altoona, we have the "first and the last" SD45-2's--CR 6654 and CR 6666--which were resting between helper assignments. Carl says that he always liked these big "bathtubs", and CR 6666 was the one he always looked for.
