The Conrail Cyclopedia - Serving Conrail fans world-wide since 1998.

Formerly an SD-40 from PAC Leasing 606 and prior to that KCS 606. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a shot from the front since the train was moving too fast for my camera.

Look for the very small Conrail logo above the air reservoir. With the doors open, you can peek into the prime mover (engine). Also note that where the small gray AEI tag is located on the running board, the white stripe is broken. This unit had its hand brake mounted on the rear and the area in the nose where the brake usually is was plated over.

Former SD40 PAC 613, KCS 613. This unit is heading west from Reading, PA to Altoona, PA on SHOP train. This unit had been hit by a runaway covered hopper in Reading, PA. The hopper broke loose in Wernersville, PA on the Harrisburg Line from the rear of a westbound train, then rolled all the way to into Reading. This unit and another SD40-2 were sent to stop the car, but the covered hopper impacted CR 6967 at Center in Reading, before the engines could get out of town. Impact was reported to be around 35mph. Fuel tank was ruptured. Spilled sand from the covered hopper was used to clean the spill. A bit of irony there.

Here is a shot of the same unit above after being rebuilt after the wreck. Notice that the new low hood no longer has classification lights. This unit always had a rear-mounted hand brake like the 6966 above.

Conrail unit sandwiched between two NS units shortly after the NS takeover of Conrail. Of course, this type of scene had been happening for years in PA.

Former SD40 CR 6341, PC 6088, PRR 6088. A lot of good modeling to do here. Notice the marker lights, brake lever, door gasket, and more.
