Look for the very small Conrail logo above the air reservoir. With the doors open, you can peek into the prime mover (engine). Also note that where the small gray AEI tag is located on the running board, the white stripe is broken. This unit had its hand brake mounted on the rear and the area in the nose where the brake usually is was plated over. Location: Wyomissing, PA 4-96 Photo Online: January 16, 1999 |

Former SD-40 PAC 613, KCS 613. This unit is heading west from Reading, PA to Altoona, PA on SHOP train. This unit had been hit by a runaway covered hopper in Reading, PA. The hopper broke loose in Wernersville, PA on the Harrisburg Line from the rear of a westbound train, then rolled all the way to into Reading. This unit and another SD-40-2 were sent to stop the car, but the covered hopper impacted CR 6967 at Center in Reading, before the engines could get out of town. Impact was reported to be around 35mph. Fuel tank was ruptured. Spilled sand from the covered hopper was used to clean the spill. A bit of irony there.
