Detroit Terminal Railroad joined Conrail on October 1, 1981. They owned several NW2's and one SW7. Conrail renumbered the NW2's 9195-9199 and 9297-9300. The SW7 was renumbered 8835. Detroit Terminal NW2 104 awaits its new number after becoming property of Conrail.

This unit did not escape the paint-out brush for long when this photo was snapped at the roundhouse. Still, the crews did a careful job not to disturb too much of the paint. It was very difficult for many paint-crews to "destroy" their own locos with CR stencils. LV crews seem to have been the best at using the least amount of paint to block out their logos.

Dead line. PC never bothered to paint out the PRR logo, just slap the PC logo on the hood. CR never bothered to paint out the logos, just slapped their numbers on it. No CR logo to be found. Former PC 8664, PRR. Built 1948.

This is an unusual stencil job. Someone applied the CR stencil to this former Penn Central (New York Central) NW2M but did not renumber the locomotive, leaving the old PC cab numbers in place. On page 210 of Penn Central Power there is a photo of 8806 from 1971 still in its New York Central scheme. However, it looks just like it does here six years later. My guess is that Penn Central never got around to repainting this unit, and Conrail left it go as well. A very unusual find!
