This geep equipped with rooftop air tanks for passenger service, knicknamed torpedo tubes, has a bit of history. Originally numbered as NYC 5937, was later changed to PC 7509, then renumbered as PC 7337, then as CR 7337.

Conrail 7435 was originally NYC 6035. Conrail kept it assigned to Ontario. If you look on the lower right of the loco's frame you'll notice "St. Thomas" stenciled there.

Another former NYC GP-9 (xNYC 6036), the CR 7436 has been repainted early. It doesn't have a CR logo yet, but it does have the black lower frame indicating that the unit is to remain in Canada service only.

Conrail inherited two GP-9's from the Lehigh Valley, LV 300 and LV 301, which became CR 7476 and CR 7477 respectively. If you like weathering and the transition days of Conrail, as I do, you'll love the challenge this locomotive poses. Looks like the paint has worn off down to the primer in many spots. See the Lehigh Valley section below for photos of this unit as LV 300 prior to being stenciled.

LV 300 was already worn and 20 years old when Arnie shot this in 1977. By 1982, as Robert Palmer's photo of it above in CR stencils show, it was even worse. Conrail inherited two GP-9's from the Lehigh Valley, LV 300 and LV 301, which became CR 7476 and CR 7477 respectively.
