CR 3872

CR 3872

Conrail F7B 3872 spends its final days in the Collinwood deadline in 1978. This unit has a rather complex history, which Roger traces. This was one of two F7B's that Penn Central got from the Denver & Rio Grande Western. (The other was CR 3873.) The unit was to be scrapped but was in good enough shape--along with two former D&RGW F7A's--that it was able to run. It began as DRGW 5712, then became PC 712, PC 3478, then finally CR 3872. Note the car body difference--the roof overhang--between this and the ex-NYC F7B's. Also note that these "B" units had a front, as shown here by that "F" on the lower frame.
