The maroon paint over the EL logo still looks fresh on former EL 821 (Erie 821) as it sits in the dead line awaiting scrapping.

An excellent overhead shot of 4021 followed by 4022. While a bit smaller than I would like, it still highlights the roof details.

Even on overcast days Conrail ran Operation Lifesaver trains. 4022 is nearing the end of its career wearing blue. Note the black paint around the cab nose and windows.

Conrail's E8 4022 is ex-Erie Lackawanna #833. It's the backup unit for CR 4020 and CR 4021. In this photo, the unit has an air whistle that was eventually replaced with the horns currently in use.

Conrail 4022 was in the middle if this move, with 4020 in the lead. 4022 died while on an Operation Lifesave move, which is why they had to add the third unit, CR 4021. An unusual site.

Another shot of 4022 during the 1998 Railfest. The overcast weather probably helped photographing the OCS that day since the train can be difficult to shoot in bright sun.

Conrail E-8A 4063, a former NYC unit, is surrounded by some "railroad ambiance" as it rests between runs in Chicago, Ill in June of 1978. The old roundhouse, the turntable, the wheels, and even the grease on the ground spell railroading the way it use to be.

Erie Lackawanna:

Always sad to see such a graceful locomotive on the deadline. Former DL&W 818. Was to be renumbered CR 4008, but never made it.
