Conrail only owned 15 of these units, which they inherited from Penn Central. They took series CR 2400-2414. Needless to say, as oddball units, they did not last long before being retired.

This unit, the former PC 2407, would somehow survive into late '79 running well after the other 14 units were in deadlines or scrap. In less than two weeks this "9 lives" unit would finally get set aside with the remaining Century 425's and 430's. Roger's guess is that it ran with this 5099 number for only a week or two at best.
