Conrail inherited only nine RS-1 locomotives, all from the Penn Central. They were oddball units that had lingered into the Conrail era. The red "P" of the early Penn Central herald can still be seen here on Penn Central #9924.

The snow jet coupled to the nose of Penn Central #9937 might be one of the first of its kind, as this type of snow melting device was invented at Collinwood.
