The Reading Company ordered their C-630s in two groups. The first group, Reading Company #5300-#5306, were ordered without the Bee Line Service logo on the side of the locomotives and came with standard trimount trucks. The second group, Reading Company #5307-#5311, came with the Bee Line Service logo and Hi-Adhesion trucks. This is why stenciled Conrail #6753-#6759 didn't have any paint-out markings on the long hood where the Bee Line would have been, as seen here on former Reading Company #5304, which is sitting in the dead line.

Former Reading Company #5305 came without the Bee Line Service logo but had the standard trimount trucks. Note how the black paint had nearly worn off the Reading diamond on the cab, the Conrail above the grills where the original Reading locomotive number had been, and the general nasty shape of the engine. A true shame.

Either the paint has worn off the Reading Company numbers above the rear grills or the paint crews never bothered to paint them out, which seems doubtful though possible. This, of course, was former Reading Company #5306, the last of Reading's first group of C-630's. Conrail would retire it in early 1979.

As Scott says, this is an eerie shot of Conrail #6770's cab sitting outside Naporano scrap. On a side note, the cab was for sale for a few years for $1,000, along with one from a Norfolk & Western Century. It probably ended up as razor blades. The stuff they were scrapping there at the time was amazing. Lots of Rock Island and Burlington Northern power right behind where Scott was standing for that photo.

Penn Central #6325 (former Pennsylvania Railroad #6325) with trimount trucks is still in its Penn Central heralds. It would be renumbered as Conrail #6775.
