April 6, 1996. Westbound FRSE winding through the reverse curve along Muddy Pond at the Washington/Hinsdale town line. Seems SOMEONE has a low opinion of their employer. This is at least the second CR engine I know of with the "mis-spelled" company name, GP-40 3232 had it also, back in the early 80's.

This second shot is a wider view of the same train from the same vantage point as above. I used to do a lot of combination tele/normal shots.

Also taken on October 1, 1996, this is SELA working upgrade at Old Dalton Road undergrade in Hinsdale, MA. The SD-60M's were favorite EMD's of mine, "handsome" locomotives, and never saw quite enough of them.

The 4123 leads eastbound SEFR upgrade just below the crest of the grade in Hinsdale on October 1, 1996. The BOSE/SEBO and FRSE/SEFR turns were regular early recepients of the SD-80MAC's ministrations on the old Boston & Albany.

A little after 0900, westbound BOSE passes the summit of Washington Hill. I don't usually shoot westbounds this early at the summit because of the sun angle, but wanted to try it once. The 4120 leads on the first day of October 1996.

Cropped from a 35mm slide that was shot as a vertical (a liitle off the top, a little off the bottom) also from October 4, 1996. Eastbound SEFR begins the assault on the west slope of Washington hill, climbing out of North Adams Junction in Pittsfield, down in the blurry distance, almost a mile away. The gradient in the foreground is about 1.4%, and it's dead level down in the distance at the rear of the train.

It appears that SEBO has been saddled with "overflow" multi-levels as he tops the west slope of Washington Hill in Hinsdale center, led by the 4125 on October 4, 1996.

Just before sun-up on October 4, 1996, the 4111 leads eastbound multi-level train ML-482 past CP 140 in the midst of the Hinsdale Flats atop Washington Hill. This is one of the few places with low enough horizons to get decent light for most of the day on "the hill".

By October 15, 1996, the fall foliage in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts is past peak and, speaking of "peak", that one looming in the background is Mt Greylock. At 3.491 ft., the highest in the state. The 500mm chunk of glass used to capture this image also belies the fact that the mountain is also 19 miles distant. By the way, the train is westbound TV-99, led by SD-60I 5584, rolling across, believe it or not, a 2 and a half mile long tangent in Richmond, MA.

The folowing three shots were all taken the same day, October 17, 1996. The day started out foggy, which is not necessarily a bad thing, and then cleared off nicely later in the morning. The first shot shows eastbound SEBO with SD-80MAC CR 4120 boring through the fog near MP 68 in Brookfield, MA.
