In August 1979, a very short through freight heads west on the former Erie Lackawanna past what is left of the EL yard in Akron, OH. The yard is now used for car storage. Note the blue Alco C-630 #6769 as the second out unit.

In June 1978 a pair of xPC GP-7's (5959 and 5958) are being passed by a Burlington Northern E8 backing into Union Station to load up for a trip west. Notice the EL, PRR, PC, and Amtrak coach cars in the background! Those were the day.

Roger says, it's only a few months into Conrail, and some operations still look like the old way. Witness a quartet of PC F's on this CR local in Akron, Ohio. First the train (AMA-1), then the F's, then the track (ex-PC), and finally Conrail itself would be history in this town. I watch ex-Conrail units going by on CSX now--wishing we could have seen "pure" (before split) sets of modern Conrail power blasting west on the old Erie, or south on the old PC.

The Ironton 751 is shown here at Easton, PA at the end of November 1976. I don't think it ran much after early '77. It was never renumbered--although I've heard the tale of an 'unofficial' deadline patch job by a fan, but have never seen a photo to verify. You sure can see the Reading influence in that paint scheme!

Roger Durfee - The Ironton 751 is shown here at Easton, PA at the end of November 1976. I don't think it ran much after early '77. It was never renumbered--although I've heard the tale of an 'unofficial' deadline patch job by a fan, but have never seen a photo to verify. You sure can see the Reading influence in that paint scheme!
