This is a photocoy of an official map from Conrail, showing what it calls "Conrail East" in 1987. The PDF version is sized to fit a standard sheet of paper, whereas the GIF version is designed for screen viewing.

Conrail operated using the NORAC signalling conventions, which standardized signalling in the Northeast. This is a copy of the 7" x 7" lamenated bi-fold signal aspect sheet from October 1, 1988 that train crews carried with them. Being the perfectionist that I tend to be when it comes to anything visual, I scanned the sheet and took a great deal of time cleaning it up so that modelers could print it at 150dpi and have a nice copy to hand out when operating their layouts. I hope you enjoy it.

This is the back side of the signal aspect sheet above, explaining the various signal rules. It is also scanned at 150dpi.

In the October 1976 issue of Modern Railroads, Shell Oil took out a large tri-fold advertisement saluting Conrail. It featured this system map of the start-up railroad. I scanned the map piece by piece and painstakingly cleaned it up so it would look good. The other side of the advert featured Conrail's complete operating schedule of all mainline trains on April 1, 1976. (Must be resized before printing--this is a large map!)

This is a copy of a Conrail Form D movement permit from the late 1990s. Back in the old days, we used to call these 'train orders'. Like all the late-90s Form D's that I have seen, this one looks like it has been photocopied a million times over. If you want to print your own copies, download the PDF version.

Here is a copy of something a railfan never wants to see--a Conrail Police Warning! Thankfully, I have never had the experience of having one of these filled out on me! Always play it safe.

A flow chart of railroads comprising the Conrail system. Roads in blue are the original predecessors from 1976. Roads in black are those merged into the system or acquired by Conrail after 1976. Thanks to Tom Wolfgang for creating this image for the site.
