CR 9: Theater Car

Bill custom built his version of Conrail 9 in HO scale. Originally a dining car for the Canadian National and built in 1954, Conrail 9 was purchased in 1985 from its second owner, VIA Railway. Conrail rebuilt the car, creating its unique end window out of which executives could inspect the property during trips across the system. The photos on the far left are those of the actual CR 9. The rest are Bill's CR 9. I think he did a great job. If you would like more information and photos of Conrail's office train, check Wes Reminder's OCS website.

Penn Central SD-80MAC

Bill has built a number of 'real' Conrail SD-80MAC models, but he wondered what it would have been like if Conrail had never existed (gasp!) and the Penn Central had lived into the 1990s. Needing powerful locomotives to haul their coal drags over the mountains of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts--does this sound familiar?--they turn to EMD's brand new SD-80MAC. To celebrate the arrival of a new type of locomotive, one powered by AC instead of DC, Penn Central decides to create a new paint scheme, leaving classic black for a version of progressive green. We must admit, the scheme looks pretty darn good on the locos. Now about the part where Conrail never existed...

CR 4100 SD-80MAC

Bill began 4100 by using the old Rail Power Products SD-80MAC shell, which has been out of production since Athearn bought RPP, and other detail parts. This project predated the Penn Central SD-80MAC above.
