Building A Layout Texas-style II: Modules Finished
by Tim Hannum
On May 7, 2006 at 3:19 AM in the morning, after six hours of woodworking, I finished the last three modules!!! The three soon to be engine service facility modules were the last pieces that kept me from running around the room. This completes the bench work phase! I laid down a temporary #2 mainline and the George Bush 4141 dragged a 65 car freight through. Now with no additional wiring and or completed power mains the Digitrax system worked flawlessly without incident! Final thoughts: Please note that I have many things to do but the simple fact that I can operate around all the rooms is very special. After one hour I had three 50+ car freights on the mainline at track speed. My addiction to trains has never been so strong. That is because we all share a very special hobby. On that thought, I will now step down from my pulpit.

Building A Layout Texas-style I: First Looks
by Tim Hannum
Since 2005, we have been watching the progress of Tim's midwestern layout grow from modules into a huge layout. Below are some early photos from the series, featuring the original modules. In the corner module, the center of attraction is a large feed mill, which can be found in nearly every midwestern town. Some maintenance of way workers have been called out to do some track work, while some cows try to cool off in the shade during the hot, summer day. Today, we spot some Conrail and BNSF action passing through. The rest of the photos feature other modules and parts of the layout.
