Captured on film a year after being delivered to Conrail, many of the original SCL and as-delivered features still remain. The nose signal light housing is still silver, the 5-chime horn is in use. The firecracker antenna is on the cab. There is no plow, which will be added later. The oval cab windows are open, not plated-over. There is an ACI label on the long hood. Compare this photo with that of the 2972 from 1988 below.

Former Auto Train locomotive. By the late 1980s, many of the SCL details found on these units when CR took delivery of them in 1976 had been replaced with more tradition Conrail features, such as sinclair antennas, plated-over cab windows, and so on.
