The SD-70 was the final class of locomotive to wear Conrail paint, thereby marking the end of the railroad in my mind. Conrail had placed additional orders for SD-80MACs, but during acquisition talks of the railroad between Norfolk Southern and CSX the order was changed. Wanting neither AC power on their roster nor a new locomotive class owned only by one railroad in North America, Norfolk Southern changed the order to DC-powered, standard cab SD-70's. Plus all units were numbered in sequence with other NS units, making them easy to transition to the new railroad in June 1999.Comprehensive Roster [Download PDF Version The roster below is comprehensive for these units, which were purchased beginning in June 1998 and survived on roster until 1999. This roster based on information from X2200South 116. Thanks to John Durant for additional info.
