Like the SD-70's, the 4,000hp SD-70MAC's originally began as an order for SD-80MAC's. But during acquisition talks of Conrail between Norfolk Southern and CSX the order of SD-80MAC's was changed to SD-70's and SD-70MAC's, with the latter being built to CSX specifications.
