No other railroad other than Conrail owned as many GP-15-1's. Between July 1979 and December 1979, Conrail received 100 units from EMD. Since all the units were equipped with cab signals and MU capabilities, they could work any locomotive assignment anywhere on the system. However, Conrail mostly assigned them to local duty. Like other locomotives in local and yard duty, the GP-15-1's were often coated in a rusty looking layer of dirt. All the units had identical features so there were no special phases among the Conrail units. ]The roster below is comprehensive for these units, which were purchased beginning in 1979 and survived on roster until 1999. The roster does not contain retirement dates and dispositions. This roster based on information from Conrail Motive Power Review: Volume 1 and CR Locomotive Data books.
