Originally, the E33's were ordered by the Virginian. When the Norfolk & Western acquired the railroad, all electric operations were stopped. The units were then sold off to the New Haven and passed onto the Penn Central when the NH was tossed into the merger. The units then passed onto Conrail, where they served their final days until they passed on permanently to the great railroad in the sky. More information will be forthcoming about these locomotives.Comprehensive Roster [Download PDF Version The roster below is comprehensive for these units between April 1976 and the last unit's retirement in the early 1990s, and contains all predecessor units of the locomotive class that Conrail inherited. If numbers are missing from the roster, Conrail intentionally left them open. It does not contain retirement dates and dispositions due to their complex nature. All of the units were retired in 1979.
