HE7A Hoppers: Atlas N
Conrail Cyclopedia Quality!

Conrail HE7A Hopper The HE7A was the final order of hoppers that Erie Lackawanna ordered prior to the Conrail merger in 1976. In May 1974, Greenville Steel Car delivered a total of 750 of these 70-ton, 12-panel, 3-bay hoppers.

While just as in HO scale, there isn't an exact model of an Erie Lackawanna or Conrail HE7A, but Atlas does make a fairly close model of a 70-ton, 12-panel, 3-bay hopper predecorated for Erie Lackawanna. The slope sheets and end panels are different than from the prototype HE7A, but the model does have full height ladders. For a discussion about slope sheets and end panels, see the
HO Modeling page. All the model really needs is some good weathering. Unfortunately, Atlas only has done 2 road numbers for these models so you'll have to figure out how to change the reporting marks if you want more cars. And that is about it for the N scale version. Happy modeling.
