Contrary to popular belief, Conrail did not paint these gondolas blue. Instead, Conrail purchased these cars from the Cape Brenton & Central Nova Scotia Railroad and restenciled them 'CR.' Keith Burkey discovered this while examining the cars. The former CB&CNS markings are quite evident under the paint-out area. (Just when we thought we finally had a prototype to match all our old blue Conrail Life-Like gondolas! Oh well...) Sometimes the cars will have a sticker on the side that reads "Provided by a Railtex Feeder Railroad," while other cars have this sticker removed as does the 585581 below. No class markings on any car, as per practice on new CR equipment this year.
