X73 Boxcars: Photos
The former EL cars are easy to spot since they were equipped with a Hennessey power door opener on each side. Though EL originally painted these cars a light blue, Conrail eventually repainted most of them. This particular car got repainted a light orange color with simple CR reporting marks instead of the full Conrail logo.

Another former EL car, this one got repainted a more traditional FGE yellow-gold with full Conrail logo and 'Cushioned Car' lettering. No decal set is available that I know of, but Walthers predecorates their Conrail model in this scheme in HO and N scale.

Just to prove that Conrail freight cars get around, Mike caught this X73 out on the wide open Wyoming range!

The plates between the rivits show up well in this photo taken in the deep South on CSX. Due to excessive graffiti, Conral had to reaply the car numbers.

This car took some damage to the one end. Also, note the unusual spacing of the logo, which looks like the old days when Conrail was spelled as two words.

This heavily weathered car was repainted 10-85 and shows how worn the roofs become on most boxcars.
